Autism Speaks

Welcome to letstalkautism.weebly.com. You have found the website I have created to promote autism awareness. More and more people are being diagnosed with autism and it is becoming wider-spread. As such, we must promote awareness of it.  It is my goal to graduate from my school and work with someone with autism.  According to autismspeaks.org, "Autism impacts 1 in 110 children, and 1 in 70 boys." ("Autism Speaks..."). Why is autism growing? We need answers. We must promote awareness of autism.

What Is Autism?
"Autism causes kids to experience the world differently from the way most other kids do. It's hard for kids with autism to talk with other people and express themselves using words. Kids who have autism usually keep to themselves and many can't communicate without special help.causes kids to experience the world differently from the way most other kids do. What is life like for someone with autism?
For someone with autism, they may well live in a limited world. People who are autistic can have a great talent in one area, but can lack social skills and necessary brain image. 40% of people with autism never learn to speak, and some people with autism never learn how to recognize their name. As quote from answers.com, Autism is "A pervasive developmental disorder characterized by severe deficits in social interaction and communication, by an extremely limited range of activities and interests, and often by the presence of repetitive, stereotyped behaviors." (Answers.com).  The main, tell-tale sign of autism is trademarked by social interaction. Many youngsters with autism have no or limited social interaction. According to the Autism Fact Sheet by the National Institute of Disorders and Stroke, they say that people with autism usually start speaking than most children. They also state that children with autism "engage in behaviors such as rocking or twirling... and self abuse behaviors." ("Autism fact sheet..."). The life for someone with autism is a very hard road, marked with symptoms and behaviors.
